Juliette has just learned of Romeo's identity from her nurse, and is devastated by this news, because Romeo turns out to belong to the Montague family, which is in serious conflict with her own Capulet family. She complains that the time during which she did not know who Romeo was has been too long and now prevents her from changing her feelings towards him. Juliette is therefore trapped in a situation that she cannot see the way out.
