Romeo and Juliet is a play by William Shakespeare published in 1597 but certainly written a few years earlier. This tragedy is inspired by an Italian tale and tells the tragic story of two young lovers whose families are enemies. The characters of Romeo and Juliet have become the archetypes of the star-crossed lovers. It has also been adapted for cinema numerous times.

The plot takes place in Verona, where Romeo of the Montague family and Juliet of the Capulet family fall passionately in love, and marry in secret. But their families have a bloody rivalry that leads Romeo to kill Tybalt to avenge the death of his best friend Mercutio. Romeo is condemned to exile following this murder, and then Juliet, desperate, pretends to be dead so she can run away with her lover. Unfortunately Romeo is not aware of the plan and believing her dead, he commits suicide. After that, Juliette also commits suicide when she discovers the death of her lover.
