Members of this family obtained lands in Northumberland, including Redesdale and Prudhoe, from the Norman kings, and a later member, Gilbert de Umfraville (d. 1245) , married Matilda, daughter of Malcolm, earl of Angus, and obtained this Scottish earldom. ”
