Anonymous, Introducing William and Milton Newby Memorial School of the Mooresville Schools (1937)
“ Our school plant has been developing during a period of more than a century beginning in a one-room log school in 1826. A two-room building upon the present site was made possible by gifts from the Friends Church and an Academy was organized in September, 1861. An addition was made to the building in 1867 and an elementary school was established. The Friends continued to operate the school system until about 1871, at which time the town took it over as a public school system. ”
