“ He filled the position for several years of Inspector-General of Prisons in Ireland, and was subsequently, owing to his great experience of these establishments, elected an honorary member of the General Prisons' Board. He also held the position of Inspector of Reformatories and Industry Schools. He was appointed a Commissioner of National Education in 1861, and during the present year he was selected by her Majesty as one of her Privy Councillors in Ireland. ”
