Catullus

Catullus

Summary

Portrait of Catullus Catullus,  Catullus 104

“ Do you think that I could have spoken ill of my life,
(she) who is dearer to me than both my eyes?
I could not have (done that) --nor, if I could (help it) , would I love (her) so ruinously;
but you, and Tappo with you, you make everything out to be a portent.
Credis me potuisse meae maledicere uitae,
ambobus mihi quae carior est oculis?
non potui, nec, si possem, tam perdite amarem:
sed tu cum Tappone omnia monstra facis.
