“ On vi Id. (10th) of July, 1359, Richard de Langton, clerk, was presented to the parish church of Wigan, then vacant, by Sir Robert Langton, knight, the true patron, and Stephen de Chetaston, Rector of Warrington, was appointed a special commissary for his institution, which took place in the chapel of the said Sir Robert, at Newton, in his presence, and he, the said Richard, made oath that he would pay an annual pension of £20 due to the cathedral of Lichfield by equal portions at Michaelmas and Easter. ”
