“ I have lost since I left Canby 197 by deaths and gained on the trip 245, which gain was made on the road between Fort Canby and Los Pinos N M by Indians coming in from the mountains. The Indians have lost 50 head of horse and mules which were stolen by Mexican thieves.—the Inf under my command captured six head of the stolen animals at San Antonio N M and for the want of mounted men to follow up the Robbers the balance was lost. ”
