“ Ray was left an orphan by the death of her mother, her father having died two years before. A few months later she entered Clinton Seminary, Ky., as both student and teacher. For fourteen years she was almost constantly employed in educational work, either as teacher or student, and often as both. She spent every spare moment during that time in writing stories, poems and practical articles. Her last school work was done in Clinton College, where she acted in the capacity of both student and teacher. She became the wife of E. R. Ray, of Hickman county, Ky., on 10th October, 1878. ”
