This officer served as midshipman on board the Magnificent 74, Captain William Henry Jervis, and was wrecked in that ship, on a sunken rock near Brest, Mar. 25th, 1804 [1] . He passed his examination in the beginning of Jan. 1810; obtained his first commission on the 11th of the same month; and subsequently served under Sir John Gore, in the Tonnant 80, principally employed off Brest, l’Orient, and Rochfort
