“ In Dec. 1810, he acted as commander of the Eclipse sloop, at the capture of the Isle of France; and in Feb. following, we find him taking possession of Tamatavé, thereby securing to the British “an unmolested traffic with the fruitful and abundant island of Madagascar.” He obtained his present rank on the 18th of April, 1811, and continued to command the Eclipse (latterly on the West India station) until July, 1814. ”
