“ Kick Out must not be from more than 25 yards out of goal, nor from more than 10 yards if a place-kick.
iii.
Fair Catch is a catch direct from the foot.
iv.
Charging is fair, in case of a place-kick, as soon as the ball has touched the ground; in case of a kick from a catch, as soon as the player offers to kick, but he may always draw back, unless he has actually touched the ball with his foot.
v.
Off-Side. — A player is off his side, if the ball has been kicked or thrown on by one of his own side behind him, until the other party kick it, throw it on, or run it. ”

“ A ball touched between the goal-posts may be brought up to either of them, but not between. The ball when punted must be within, when caught without the line of goal: the ball must be place-kicked and not dropped, even though it touch two hands, and it must go over the bar and between the posts without having touched the dress or person of any player. No goal may be kicked from touch. ”

“ He who has caught it then proceeds to place it for another to kick, as hereafter described in the case of a fair catch. If the touch down be near enough to try a goal, then two of his side are commissioned by the head of the side to take it out, one of them, who is to kick it, being naturally chosen for his expertness in place kicking. Then he who is going to kick it takes it up, brings it to the line of the goal, and touches it down in a line with the place at which the person who ran in touched it down. ”

“ New law xxv added: "In case of a player getting a fair catch immediately in front of his own goal, he may not retire behind the line to kick it". Old law xxxvi / new law xxviii: replace "the opposite side may take a punt or drop, without running" with the opposite side may take a punt or drop, without running, (after touching the ball on the ground) ". ”

“ Knocking on, as distinguished from throwing on, is altogether disallowed under any circumstances whatsoever. In case of this rule being broken, a catch from such a knock on shall be equivalent to a fair catch. ”

No hacking with the heel, or above the knee, is fair.

No player but the first on his side, may be hacked, except in a scrummage.
xxviii.
No player may wear projecting nails or iron plates on the heels or soles of his shoes or boots.

No player may take the ball out of the Close.

No player may stop the ball with anything but his own person. ”

“ Old law xxv / new law xxxvii: prepend "Old Rugbeians shall be allowed to play at the matches of football, not, however, without the consent of the two heads of the sides; but" (this text was in one of the "Resolutions" preceding the 1845 laws) . Old law xxv / new law xxxvii: replace "No strangers, in any match" with "no stranger". Delete old law xxxi: "Nobody may wear cap or jersey without leave from the head of his house". ”
