Charles William Young The St. Petersburg Times celebrates 125 years of publishing excellence

Following my remarks, I will include for the benefit of my
colleagues, a column by Paul Tash, the Editor, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of The St. Petersburg Times, commemorating the
newspaper's growth and plans to celebrate its history over the next
year.
Madam Speaker, The St. Petersburg Times has dutifully recorded the
history of our community these past 125 years, and as Paul Tash writes,
"sharing in the success, suffering in the setbacks."

Charles William Young A Tribute to Paul de la Garza

Many of our colleagues worked with Paul as he reported on stories affecting our national security and the health care of our country's veterans. Paul was an outstanding investigative reporter who mined his many sources to effect necessary changes in the way in which we deliver medical care at our Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. He also spent time earlier this summer in Iraq as he did extensive reporting on the war there and the role U.S. Central Command plays in managing our troops on the ground.

Charles William Young St. Petersburg Times earns two Pulitzer Prizes for journalism (2009)

PolitiFact became such a valuable source of information during
last fall's campaign season that it was quoted regularly by national
news organizations.
Madam Speaker, Please join me in congratulating Lane DeGregory, Bill
Adair, and his team for a job well done in earning journalism's highest
honor this week. They have set the standard for human interest and
political reporting as judged by the peers in their field of work.
