“ On Monday morning another telegram was received from the relative revoking the former instructions and requesting that the body be buried here, so on Tuesday afternoon White Mountain Lodge No. 3, F. and A. M. held Masonic services at the undertaking rooms and the Masonic cemetery, where the remains were interred. W. H. Duryea was a native of New York state but lived the greater part of his life on the Pacific coast and in Arizona. He came to Globe, Arizona in 1878 and had lived here continuously since. ”

“ After coming here he was interested for a time in the Champion mill and in 1879 or 1880 opened a general merchandise store in the adobe building, north of Pinal creek crossing that was afterwards occupied by G. S. Van Wagenen and was burned down by the first of July 2, 1901. ”
