“ The drawings, about sixty in number, in pencil, pen-and-ink, water-colour, etc., include examples of illustrations for Gulliver’s Travels, Rip Van Winkle, Mother Goose, Aesop’s Fables, Comus, Undine, and A Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and a series for The Lonesomest Doll. This was followed by an even more important addition in 1958 of some three hundred original drawings and sketches, together with about thirty volumes of the artist’s sketchbooks in which his major illustrated books were planned. ”
