AT THE CROSSROADS. SLOWLY Marvella's hand fell away from the blood-red jewel, leaving it gleaming upon her white forehead. For Marvella must have known that it was not chance which had brought King Reagan quietly into the room at so inopportune a moment, just when the door had closed upon the departure of Stephen Carrington. Marvella must have realized that Reagan, choosing this instant for his own entrance, had watched for her meeting with the young millionaire and had seen all that had occurred.
