active 1792-1794 John Cooke, Diary of Captain John Cooke, 1794
“ General Todd’s brigade of volunteers started for Greenville this morning. Under his command and direction were all the quartermaster’s and contractor’s horses, for the purpose of conducting our supplies. We attended divine service; the sermon was delivered by Rev. David Jones, chaplain. Mr. Jones chose for his text, Romans 8:31: “But what shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” ”
