“ During the remainder of the war, we find him in the Iris frigate, commanded, for the last three years thereof, by Captain Hood Hanway Christian. The Lavinia led the squadron which forced the passage between the batteries of Flushing and Cadsand, exposed to the enemy’s fire during two hours (owing to the lightness of the wind and an adverse tide) , Aug. 11th, 1809. The Iris was actively employed on the north coast of Spain in 1811 and 1812 [1] ”
