Testimony of Jesus

Definition and stakes

The Common Edition: New Testament

“ And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more." 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 13 The Pharisees then said to him, "You are bearing witness of yourself; your testimony is not true." 14 Jesus answered, "Even if I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. ”

Portrait of Orson Pratt Orson Pratt,  Journal of Discourses — Volume 7…

“ I have not only borne testimony to my own nation on this continent, baptizing believers, building up churches, travelling on foot thousands and tens of thousands of miles without purse or scrip, being mobbed and driven to-and-fro, and hunted by the enemy; but I have also had the privilege of crossing the Atlantic Ocean ten times for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus, to bear his name among the nations afar off; and I have endeavoured in those distant lands, as well as on this continent, to bear my testimony faithfully among the people. ”

Matthew Henry,  Commentary on the Whole Bible… (1700s)

“ I am thy fellow-servant, and of thy brethren which have the testimony of Jesus—I am a creature, thine equal in office, though not in nature; I, as an angel and messenger of God, have the testimony of Jesus, a charge to be a witness for him and to testify concerning him, and thou, as an apostle, having the Spirit of prophecy, hast the same testimony to give in; and therefore we are in this brethren and fellow-servants." (4.) He directs him to the true and only object of religious worship; namely, God: " Worship God, and him alone." ”
