Augustus Hughes-Hughes

Biographical details

Augustus Hughes-Hughes,  Dictionary of National Biography… (1893)

“ Hawkins describes him as bachelor of music; he certainly took a musical degree, as he is styled in Brit. Mus. Addit. MS. 31922 ‘in armonia graduat,’ and his early death makes it improbable that he obtained a doctor's degree. In 1520 Lloyd, along with the other gentlemen of Henry VIII's Chapel, attended the king at the Field of the Cloth of Gold, and in January in the following year he appears to have accompanied his royal master on a visit to the Duke of Buckingham at Thornbury Castle, Gloucestershire. ”

Augustus Hughes-Hughes,  A Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1900)

“ While there he distinguished himself in literature and the arts, especially in poetry and music, finally taking the degree of Bachelor of Music. After his stepfather's death Robert Wydow succeeded him as master of the school, and is said to have turned out several illustrious pupils. Among his patrons, Wydow numbered Edward IV; and, as Edward had some connection with Thaxted, being lord of a third of the manor, it is not unreasonable to suppose that it was owing to that monarch's good offices that he obtained the presentation to the vicarage of Thaxted on Dec. ”
