“ Extension of period of office of senators. 1. (1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any law but subject to the provisions of section 33 of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961 (Act No. 32 of 1961) , a person who on the date of commencement of this Act is a senator shall hold his seat until 31 December 1980. (2) Any person who after the date of commencement of this Act becomes a senator on account of the seat of a senator having become vacant on or before that date, shall for the purposes of subsection (1) be deemed to have been a senator on that date. ”
