“ Fueling is done by means of a U.S. Navy gas truck (600 gal. cap) , the fuel being secured from the R.A.A.F. fuel tanks consisting of 4 - 6000 gal. tanks and 1 - 1200 gal. tank which are available at the field for fueling purposes. The U.S. Navy also has a bomb truck and trailer for re-arming. The Utility Training Unit, Aircraft, SEVENTH FLEET, has, at present, 5 SBD's and 1 R4D3. The U.S. Navy facilities are available for handling only the equipment of this unit. ”

“ Enlisted men are housed in four wooden buildings built under Reverse Lend-Lease - 23,200 sq. ft. Officers are housed in five Quonset Huts - 2,800 sq. ft. C.P.O.'s are housed in one quonset hut, and in one wooden building constructed under Reverse Lend-Lease - 3,200 sq. ft.
Capacity: 60 officers and 884 enlisted men.
Facilities: Municipal water, sewerage and power facilities from the City of Fremantle are used. These facilities are adequate for this component. Messing facilities are adequate. The Receiving Barracks laundry is used and is adequate for all washing purposes. ”

“ Local manufacturing companies cannot produce sufficient quantities to meet requirements of U.S. Naval Forces. (4) Sufficient cold meats, etc. can not be shipped to this area in sufficient quantity to build up a proper reserve. (5) Cold storage requirements for this area are estimated at 60,000 cu. ft. The Australian Government has approved the construction of a cold storage plant of 1,000 tons capacity for U.S. Navy. Date of beginning and completion of construction is problematical.

“ Two storerooms, one large head and one small, with shower facilities, a dressing room and a clerical office complete the divisions of the sick bay.
The dispensary is staffed by 2 medical officers, 2 dental officers, and 13 pharmacist's mates. The medical officer in charge is qualified in surgery. The pharmacist's mates include personnel well trained in surgical procedure, laboratory procedures, pharmacy, dental technicians, X-ray technician and clerical forms and procedures. A third medical officer, specialised in eye, ear, nose, and throat, has been assigned to this base. ”

“ Permanently assigned enlisted personnel are quartered and messed at Crawley in Navy quarters and the officers are quartered and messed in the B.O.Q. There is sufficient room to accommodate a limited number of transients in these quarters.
Normal operating personnel of the Utility Training Unit, Aircraft, SEVENTH FLEET, consists of 8 officers and 32 enlisted men. ”

“ This warehouse is very well stocked with the above classes of supplies needed by activities in this area. Its operations, however, are limited due to the shortage of storage space. With present stocks, the warehouse should be double its present size in order to operate to capacity. Lack of personnel is also a hampering influence. ”

“ Personnel - 4 enlisted men and 2 civilians.
REMARKS: This warehouse consists of a three-story building. It is an old building with a consequent light floor-load capacity. Therefore, all stores and material assigned to this warehouse can not be assembled. It is necessary to store bulk material of the above classes in other warehouses until issues are made and new stock can be segregated to bins. Operations are limited by the lack of storage space and lack of personnel. No other suitable storage space is available.

“ To train armed guard pool - overhaul and repair armed guard ordnance equipment, maintain stowage and issue of ammunition in Fremantle area, provide small arms range facilities for ships under Commander Task Force, Seventy One. ”

“ Lot is too small to handle large amount of stores. (3) One lot leased from Lockes Limited consisting of 9,282 sq. ft. Too small to be of much value. (4) One lot adjoining Harpers Warehouse consisting of 2,000 sq. ft. Used for overflow of material at Harpers Warehouse. (5) Fremantle Railway Yard. Consists of 20,000 sq. ft. No lease. (6) Tarpot lot adjoining warehouse, consisting of 73,888 sq. ft. Used for storing full and empty oil drums. Operations limited due to lack of space and personnel. (7) Parking lot - 20,500 sq. ft. Used for stowing NSD automotive equipment. ”

“ Electrical Shop: 1 Small coil winding machine, up to about 4" complete 250 volt 40 cycle single phase, 1 Vacuum cleaner type hot air blowers. 115 volt DC, 1 Ventilation blowers, portable 115 volt DC, 1 Commutator stones, 1 set.
Machine Shop: Surface grinder, Cylindrical grinder, Gear calipers, Bevel gear cutter, complete set. ”
