“ The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord; and through them even enemies become friends.καρδίαι δικαίων μελετώσι πίστεις στόμα δε ασεβών αποκρίνεται κακά δεκταί παρά κυρίω οδοί ανδρών δικαίων διά δε αυτών και οι εχθροί φίλοι γίνονται 29God is far from the ungodly; but he hearkens to the prayers of the righteous. Better are small receipts with righteousness, than abundant fruits with unrighteousness. Let the heart of a man think justly, that his steps may be rightly ordered of God. The eye that sees rightly rejoices the heart ”

“ He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord; and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.άδης και απώλεια ουκ εμπίμπλανται ωσαύτως και οι οφθαλμοί των ανθρώπων άπληστοι βδέλυγμα κυρίω στηρίζων οφθαλμόν και οι απαίδευτοι ακρατείς γλώσση 21Fire is the trial for silver and gold; and a man is tried by the mouth of them that praise him. The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischiefs ”

“ Chapter 16 1All the works of the humble man are manifest with God; but the ungodly shall perish in an evil day.καρδία ανδρός λογιζέσθω δίκαια ίνα υπό του θεού διορθωθή τα διαβήματα αυτού πάντα τα έργα του ταπεινού φανερά παρά τω θεώ οι δε ασεβείς εν ημέρα κακή ολούνται 2Every one that is proud in heart is unclean before God, and he that unjustly strikes hands with hand shall not be held guiltless. ”

“ God loves a cheerful and liberal man; but a man shall fully prove the folly of his works.πλούσιοι πτωχών άρξουσι και οικέται ιδίοις δεσπόταις δανιούσιν 8He that has pity on the poor shall himself be maintained; for he has given of his own bread to the poor. He that gives liberally secures victory an honour; but he takes away the life of them that posses them.ο σπείρων φαύλα θερίσει κακά πληγήν δε έργων αυτού συντελέσει άνδρα ιλαρόν και δότην αγαπά ο θεός ματαιότητα δε έργων αυτού συντελέσει 9Cast out a pestilent person from the council, and strife shall go out with him ”

“ He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.διά αμαρτίαν χειλέων εμπίπτει εις παγίδας αμαρτωλός εκφεύγει δε εξ αυτών δίκαιος 14The soul of a man shall be filled with good from the fruits of his mouth; and the recompence of his lips shall be given to him.από καρπών στόματος ψυχή ανδρός πλησθήσεται αγαθών ανταπόδομα δε χειλέων αυτού αποδοθήσεται αυτώ 15The ways of fools are right in their own eyes; but a wise man hearkens to counsels.οδοί αφρόνων ορθαί ενώπιον αυτών εισακούει δε συμβουλίας σοφός 16A fool declares his wrath the same day ”

“ All of the works of the Lord are done with righteousness; and the ungodly man is kept for the evil day.ακάθαρτος παρά θεώ πας υψηλοκάρδιος χειρί δε χείρας εμβαλών αδίκως ουκ αθωωθήσεται αρχή οδού αγαθής το ποιείν τα δίκαια δεκτά δε παρά θεώ μάλλον η θύειν θυσίας ο ζητών τον κύριον ευρήσει γνώσιν μετά δικαιοσύνης οι δε ορθώς ζητούντες αυτόν ευρήσουσιν ειρήνην πάντα τα έργα του κυρίου μετά δικαιοσύνης φυλάσσεται δε ο ασεβής εις ημέραν κακήν 3There is an oracle upon the lips of a king ”

“ By alms and by faithful dealings sins are purged away; but by the fear of the Lord every one departs from evil.εξόλλυσιν εαυτόν ο δωρολήπτης ο δε μισών δώρων λήψεις σώζεται ελεημοσύναις και πίστεσιν αποκαθαίρονται αμαρτίαι τω δε φόβω κυρίου εκκλίνει πας από κακού 28The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness; but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. ”

“ The righteous is merciful, and lends.κακός μεθ ́ ύβρεως πράσσει κακά οι δε αυτών επιγνώμονες σοφοί 11Better is he that begins to help heartily, than he that promises and leads another to hope: for a good desire is a tree of life.ύπαρξις επισπουδαζομένη μετά ανομίας ελάσσων γίνεται ο δε συνάγων εαυτώ μετ ́ ευσεβείας πληθυνθήσεται δίκαιος οικτείρει και κιχρά 12He that slights a matter shall be slighted of it: but he that fears the commandment has health of soul. ”

“ A man of a changeful tongue will fall into mischiefs;ο δε σκληροκάρδιος ου συναντά αγαθοίς ανήρ ευμετάβολος γλώσση εμπεσείται εις κακά 21and the heart of a fool is grief to its possessor. A father rejoices not over an uninstructed son; but a wise son gladdens his mother.καρδία δε άφρονος οδύνη τω κεκτημένω αυτήν ουκ ευφραίνεται πατήρ εφ ́ υιώ απαιδεύτω υιός δε φρόνιμος ευφραίνει μητέρα αυτού 22A glad heart promotes health ”

“ Chapter 18 1A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses; but at all times he will be liable to reproach.προφάσεις ζητεί ανήρ βουλόμενος χωρίζεσθαι από φίλων εν παντί δε καιρώ επονείδιστος έσται 2A senseless man feels no need of wisdom, for he is rather led by folly.ου χρείαν έχει σοφίας ενδεής φρενών μάλλον γαρ άγεται αφροσύνη 3When an ungodly man comes into a depth of evils, he despises them ”

“ Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief; and he that used provoking words shall not escape.μάρτυς ψευδής ουκ ατιμώρητος έσται ο δε εγκαλών αδίκως ου διαφεύξεται 6He that procures wisdom loves himself; and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.πολλοί θεραπεύουσι πρόσωπα βασιλέως πας δε ο κακός γίνεται όνειδος ανδρί 7A false witness shall not be unpunished ”

“ Crafty souls go astray in sins: but just men pity, and are merciful.λύτρον ανδρός ψυχής ο ίδιος πλούτος πτωχός δε ουχ υφίσταται απειλήν 9A bad man does evil with insolence: but they that are judges of themselves are wise.φως δικαίοις διαπαντός φως ασεβών σβέννυται 10Wealth gotten hastily with iniquity is diminished: but he that gathers for himself with godliness shall be increased. ”

“ The faithful has the whole world full of wealth; but the faithless not even a farthing.στέφανος γερόντων τέκνα τέκνων καύχημα δε τέκνων πατέρες αυτών του πιστού όλος ο κόσμος των χρημάτων του δε απίστου ουδέ οβολός 7Faithful lips will not suit a fool; nor lying lips a just man.ουχ αρμόσει άφρονι χείλη πιστά ουδέ δικαίω χείλη ψευδή 8Instruction is to them that use it a gracious reward ”

“ Death befalls uninstructed men.αποθνήσκει δε άφρων εν αμαρτίαις ακαθαρσία ανδρί λοιμώ 9The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man.εμμολυνθήσεται εν ημέρα κακή και εν ημέρα θλίψεως έως αν εκλείπη 10He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.ρύσαι αγομένους εις θάνατον και εκπρίου κτεινομένους μη φείση 11Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain ”

“ A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.πενία άνδρα ταπεινοί χείρες δε ανδρείων πλουτίζουσιν υιός πεπαιδευμένος σοφός έσται τω δε άφρονι διακόνω χρήσεται 5A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest.διεσώθη από καύματος υιός νοήμων ανεμόφθορος δε γίνεται εν αμητώ υιός παράνομος 6The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.ευλογιά κυρίου επί κεφαλήν δικαίου στόμα δε ασεβών καλύψει πένθος άωρον 7The memory of the just is praised ”

“ He that enjoys himself in banquets of wine, shall leave dishonour in his own strong holds.ο εργαζόμενος την εαυτού γην εμπλησθήσεται άρτων οι δε διώκοντες μάταια ενδεείς φρενών ος εστιν ηδύς εν οίνων διατριβαίς εν τοις εαυτού οχυρώμασι καταλείψει ατιμίαν 12The desires of the ungodly are evil; but the roots of the godly are firmly set.επιθυμίαι ασεβών κακαί αι δε ρίζαι των ευσεβών εν οχυρώμασι 13For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare; but a righteous man escapes from them. ”

“ Favour and friendship set a man free, which do thou keep for thyself, lest thou be made liable to reproach; but take heed to thy ways peaceably.μη σε ονειδίση μεν ο φίλος η δε μάχη σου και η έχθρα ουκ απέσται αλλά έσται σοι ίση θανάτου χάρις και φιλία ελευθεροί ας τήρησον σεαυτώ ίνα μη επονείδιστος γένη αλλά φύλαξον τας οδούς σου ευσαναλλάκτως 11As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word.μήλον χρυσούν εν ορμίσκω σαρδίου ούτως ειπείν λόγον 12In an ear-ring of gold a precious sardius is also set ”

“ Ungodliness causes a man to stumble: but he that trusts in his master shall be safe.φοβηθέντες και αισχυνθέντες ανθρώπους υπεσκελισθήσονται ο δε πεποιθώς επί κύριον ευφρανθήσεται ασέβεια ανδρί δίδωσι σφάλμα ο πεποιθώς επί τω δεσπότη σωθήσεται 26Many wait on the favour of rulers ”

“ Or go to the bee, and learn how diligent she is, and how earnestly she is engaged in her work; whose labours kings and private men use for health, and she is desired and respected by all: though weak in body, she is advanced by honouring wisdom.ετοιμάζεται θέρους την τροφήν πολλήν τε εν τω αμητώ ποιείται την παράθεσιν 9How long wilt thou lie, O sluggard? ”

“ Chapter 19 1The folly of a man spoils his ways: and he blames God in his heart.κρείσσων εστί πτωχός πορευόμενος εν απλότητι αυτού η στρεβλός τοις χείλεσιν αυτού και αυτός ανόητος 2Wealth acquires many friends; but the poor is deserted even of the friend he has.και γε χωρίς επιστήμης ψυχή ουκ αγαθή και ο σπεύδων τοις ποσίν αμαρτάνει 3A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.αφροσύνη ανδρός λυμαίνεται τας οδούς αυτού τον δε θεόν αιτιάται τη καρδία αυτού 4Many court the favour of kings ”

“ He that exalts his own house seeks ruin; and he that turns aside from instruction shall fall into mischief.ινατί υπήρξε χρήματα άφρονι κτήσασθαι γαρ σοφίαν ακάρδιος ου δυνήσεται ος υψηλόν ποιεί τον εαυτού οίκον ζητεί συντριβήν ο δε σκολιάζων του μαθείν εμπεσείται εις κακά 17Have thou a friend for every time, and let brethren be useful in distress ”

“ Chapter 30 1These things says the man to them that trust in God; and I cease.τάδε λέγει ο ανήρ τοις πιστεύουσι θεώ και παύομαι 2For I am the most simple of all men, and there is not in me the wisdom of men.αφρονέστατος γαρ ειμι απάντων ανθρώπων και φρόνησις ανθρώπου ουκ έστιν εν εμοί 3God has taught me wisdom, and I know the knowledge of the holy.ο θεός δεδίδαχέ με σοφίαν και γνώσιν αγίων έγνωκα 4Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? who has gathered the winds in his bosom? who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? ”

“ Chapter 28 1The ungodly man flees when no one pursues: but the righteous is confident as a lion.φεύγει ασεβής μηδενός διώκοντος δίκαιος δε ώσπερ λέων πέποιθε 2By reason of the sins of ungodly men quarrels arise; but a wise man will quell them.δι ́ αμαρτίας ασεβών κρίσεις εγείρονται ανήρ δε πανούργος κατασβέσει αυτάς 3A bold man oppresses the poor by ungodly deeds. As an impetuous and profitable rain,ανδρείος εν ασεβείαις συκοφαντεί πτωχούς ώσπερ υετός λάβρος και ανωφωλής 4so they that forsake the law praise ungodliness ”

“ Chapter 14 1Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs hers down with her hands.σοφαί γυναίκες ωκοδόμησαν οίκους η δε άφρων κατέσκαψε ταις χερσίν αυτής 2He that walks uprightly fears the Lord; but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonoured.ο πορευόμενος ορθώς φοβείται τον κύριον ο δε σκολιάζων ταις οδοίς αυτού ατιμασθήσεται 3Out of the mouth of fools comes a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them.εκ στόματος αφρόνων βακτηρία ύβρεως χείλη δε σοφών φυλάσσει αυτούς 4Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean ”

“ Chapter 6 1My son, if thou become surety for thy friend, thou shalt deliver thine hand to an enemy.υιέ εάν εγγυήση σον φίλον παραδώσεις σην χείρα εχθρώ 2For a man's own lips become a strong snare to him, and he is caught with the lips of his own mouth.παγίς γαρ ισχυρά ανδρί τα ίδια χείλη και αλίσκεται ρήμασιν ιδίου στόματος 3My son, do what I command thee, and deliver thyself ”

“ Chapter 12 1He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool.ο αγαπών παιδείαν αγαπά αίσθησιν ο δε μισών ελέγχους άφρων 2 He that has found favour with the Lord is made better; but a transgressor shall be passed over in silence.κρείσσων ο ευρών χάριν παρά κυρίω ανήρ δε παράνομος παρασιωπηθήσεται 3A man shall not prosper by wickedness; but the roots of the righteous shall not be taken up.ου κατορθώσει άνθρωπος εξ ανόμου αι δε ρίζαι των δικαίων ουκ εξαρθήσονται 4A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband ”

“ Chapter 22 1A fair name is better than much wealth, and good favour is above silver and gold.αιρετώτερον όνομα καλόν η πλούτος πολύς υπέρ δε αργύριον και χρυσίον χάρις αγαθή 2The rich and the poor meet together ”

“ Chapter 8 1Thou shalt proclaim wisdom, that understanding may be obedient to thee.συ την σοφίαν κηρύξεις ίνα φρόνησίς σοι υπακούση 2For she is on lofty eminences, and stands in the midst of the ways.επί γαρ των υψηλών άκρων εστίν αναμέσον δε των τρίβων έστηκε 3For she sits by the gates of princes, and sings in the entrances, saying,παρά γαρ πύλαις δυναστών παρεδρεύει εν δε εισόδοις υμνείται 4You, O men, I exhort ”

“ Chapter 20 1Wine is an intemperate thing, and strong drink full of violence: but every fool is entangled with them.ακόλαστον οίνος και υβριστικόν μέθη πας δε ο λυμαινόμενος ουκ έσται σοφός 2The threat of a king differs not from the rage of a lion; and he that provokes him sins against his own soul.ου διαφέρει απειλή βασιλέως θυμού λέοντος ο δε παροξύνων αυτόν και επιμιγνύμενος αμαρτάνει εις την εαυτού ψυχήν 3It is a glory to a man to turn aside from railing ”

“ Chapter 21 1As a rush of water, so is the king's heart in God's hand: he turns it whithersoever he may desire to point out.ώσπερ ορμή ύδατος ούτως καρδία βασιλέως εν χειρί θεού ου εάν θέλων νεύση εκεί έκλινεν αυτήν 2Every man seems to himself righteous; but the Lord directs the hearts.πας ανήρ φαίνεται εαυτώ δίκαιος κατευθύνει δε καρδίας κύριος 3To do justly and to speak truth, are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.ποιείν δίκαια και αληθεύειν αρεστά παρά θεώ μάλλον η θυσιών αίμα 4A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride ”
