Summary

Yosef Karo Translation:Shulchan Aruch — Orach Chaim 452…

An object should emit its prohibited substance the same way it absorbed it; the absorption was by something that was hot as a result of fire, so the emission should be by something hot as a result of fire. Rem"a: However, if it was only used in the hot waters of Tiberias, we scour it in them (Beit Yosef in the name of Orchot Hayim) . We do not scour in any liquid besides water, but after the fact, scouring works in any liquid (Beit Yosef in the name of Orchot Hayim) .

Similarly, [one won't need to be certain] whether he is scouring dishes that absorbed a little with dishes that absorbed a lot, or whether he has left the dishes in for too long or hasn't left them in for enough time. Similarly, [one should scour before the fifth hour] so that one will not need to be careful that the water not cool from its boiling. Rem"a: But many disagree and say that scouring does nothing if the water isn't boiling (this seems to be the meaning of the Ros"h and the Sma"g and the Trumat Hadeshen chapter 131 and the Agur and the Tur in chapter 105) .
