Jr. Horatio Alger,  Adrift in New York: Tom and Florence Braving the World

“ And who is this?” he asked, fixing his eyes on Dodger, who stood shyly in the doorway.
“I’ll tell you, sir,” said Tim Bolton. “That is your own son, whom I stole away from you when he was a kid, being hired to do it by Curtis Waring.”
“It’s a lie,” said Curtis, hoarsely.
“Come to me, my boy,” said Mr. Linden, with a glad light in his eyes.
“At last Heaven has heard my prayers,” he ejaculated. “We will never be separated. I was ready to die, but now I hope to live for many years. I feel that I have a new lease of life.”

Jr. Horatio Alger,  Mark Mason's Victory

“ She had a strong suspicion that her brother-in-law had defrauded her of her share in her father's estate.
"I am glad to see you, Mr. Talbot," she said, extending her hand. "And this is Edgar! How you have grown, Edgar."
"Yes, ma'am," responded Edgar stiffly.
Both Mrs. Mason and Mark noticed that he did not call her "aunt." Her nephew's coldness chilled her.
"I am sorry to see you in such a poor place," she said, smiling faintly.
"I suppose rents are high in New York," said Solon Talbot awkwardly.
"Yes, and our means are small. How is my sister Mary?"

Jr. Horatio Alger,  Nelson the Newsboy; Or, Afloat in New York

“ I know of no one I would like more for a cousin."
"David Horton!" came a hollow voice from the doorway, and Mr. Horton staggered in. "Can this be possible? It must be! See, I recognize his face now. Yes, yes; you are my son David! Come to me!" And he held out his arms.
Nelson came forward slowly, then of a sudden he reached forth, and grasped Mark Horton's hands tightly.
"I—I suppose it's true," he faltered. "But it will take me a long time to—to get used to it."
"My little David had just such eyes and hair as you have," went on Mark Horton, as he still held Nelson closely to him.
