Benjamin Tarnowski,
The Sexual Instinct and its Morbid Manifestations from the Double Standpoint of Jurisprudence and Psychiatry…
(1898)
“ In society the idea prevails that the taste which has become satiated with every ordinary enjoyment inclines to refined licentiousness, seeking sexual satisfaction for more developed and more supreme enjoyment. Such an apparent inventive genius in vice inevitably presupposes something superior and more complete than the usual way of satisfying the sexual instinct. Therefore the consciousness of vicious propensities and of sexual depravity raises certain ignorant, or weakminded individuals in their own estimation and in that of their circle. ”
