The mountain of St. Pierre commences about a mile south from the town of Maestricht, and extends in a direction towards Liege for nearly three leagues. It is an insulated hill forming a ridge, the sides of which are for the most part very steep. ”

“ This rock I found to resemble the limestone of Derbyshire, containing all the fossils characteristic of that formation, and like it frequently passing into chert. The fossils most abundant are several species of anomiæ and entrochi: the latter are more particularly abundant in the chert. ”
