Portrait of Warren E. Burger Warren E. Burger Nelson v. George — Opinion of the Court

In that application George alleged that the California authorities had imposed upon him a 'form of custody' because of the North Carolina detainer. Specifically, he alleged that the mere presence of the detainer adversly affected the probability of his securing parole and the degree of security in which he was detained by state authorities. California denies that the existence of the detainer has any consequences affecting his parole potential or custodial status.
