“ The custom is to make a candle for every man, whether old or young (Mordechai and Mahari"v) in addition to a soul-candle for one's deceased mother or father (Kol Bo) . This is a good practice that is written up by some rabbis. If these candles go out on Yom Kippur we do not tell a Gentile to relight them (Mahari"l) . ”

סעיף ד
נוהגים בכל מקום להרבות נרות בבתי כנסיות ולהציע בגדים נאים בבית הכנסת: הגה ונוהגים שכל איש גדול או קטן עושין לו נר (מרדכי ומהרי"ו) גם נר נשמה לאביו ולאמו שמתו (כל בו) וכן נכון וכן כתבו מקצת רבוואתא ואם כבו נרות אלו ביוה"כ אין לומר לעכו"ם שיחזור וידליקם (מהרי"ל) . ”
