Richard John Santorum,  150 Cong. Rec. S7980 - Federal Marriage Amendment - Motion to Proceed - Resumed… (2004)

“ You can say I am a hater, but I will argue that I am a lover. I am a lover of traditional family and children who deserve the right to have a mother and a father. Don’t we want that? Is there anyone in the U.S. Senate who will stand up and argue that children don’t have a right to a mom and a dad; that our society shouldn’t be saying to all people that moms and dads are the best, an ideal, and what we should strive for? When we say that marriage is not that, then we say that children don’t deserve that. ”

Richard John Santorum,  152 Cong. Rec. S5444 - Marriage Protection Amendment - Motion to Proceed… (2006)

“ We know marriage is inherently good for children. We also know that when we destroy marriage, when we deconstruct marriage, bad things happen. We saw that with no-fault divorce. More people got divorced. We changed the definition of marriage, and we say marriage is no longer about children, no longer about the next generation. Marriage is simply the affirmation of affection of two adults. Or, as Justices Scalia and White suggested, why limit it there. Why not, as we see in cases now being filed all over the country, why not three adults, four adults, five adults? ”
