“ The control measures taken so far cannot hold out its surge. Meanwhile, there has been a concurrent change in the epidemiology of VL, and there is an increasing body of evidence to suggest that the parasite and the vector are more able to adapt to a new environment than previously thought, as exemplified by the recent outbreak in highland areas of the Libo Kemkem and Fogera districts. What is certain is that with the spread of HIV infection to rural areas and the large-scale labourers' migration to and from endemic areas, VL will continue to pose a major public health problem. ”
