“ Chapter 6 1 Now Jericho was securely shut because of the Israelites: no one went out or came in. 2 And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Look -- I will deliver Jericho into your hand, and its king, its soldiers. 3 You will encircle the city, all the warriors. Go around the city one time: do this for six days. 4 And seven priests will carry seven rams-horn trumpets in front of the ark, and on the seventh day you will encircle the city seven times, and the priest will sound the trumpets. ”

“ He spared no one, and did to the king of Makkedah as he did to the king of Jericho.
29 And Joshua moved on from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and waged war against Libnah. 30 And Yahweh gave them also into the hand of Israel, along with its king, and he struck it with the edge of the sword, along with all its people. He spared none, and did to its king as he did to the king of Jericho. ”

“ Chapter 10 1 Now when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken the Ai, and had utterly exterminated it -- as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to the Ai and its king -- and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them, 2 they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than the Ai, and all its men were warriors. ”

“ They slew the men of Ai, so many that no man of the multitude was spared. 23But they took the king alive and brought him to Joshua. 24Then the Israelites killed all that pursued them into the desert, killed them by the sword where they were. They turned again and beat the city. 25There were of woman and men that fell on that same day, twelve thousand men of all the city of Ai. 26Joshua didn't lower his hand that held the shield high until all the men of Ai had been killed 27The livestock, however, the Israelites took as loot, as God commanded Moses. ”

“ Chapter 1 1 After the death of Moses servant of Yahweh, Yahweh spoke to Joshua bin [1] Nun and attendant to Moses, saying:
2 "My servant Moses is dead. Now prepare yourself and all this people to cross the Jordan, into the land which I am giving unto the Israelites. 3 Every spot upon which your foot shall tread I give unto you, as I promised to Moses.
4 Your lands shall extend from the wilderness and the Lebanon to the Great River (Euphrates) on the east - the whole of the Hittite lands - and up to the (Mediterranean) Sea on the west. 5 No man shall be able to resist you as long as you live. ”

“ This is the inheritance of the Simeonites by their clans.
9 From the allotment of the Judahites the inheritance of the Simeonites was taken, because the allotment of the Judahites was too much for them. So the Simeonites received an inheritance inside of their inheritance.
10 And the third lot came up for the Zebulunites by their clans, and the border of their inheritance stretched to Sarid. 11 And the border went up to the sea, and Maralah, and reached Dabbesheth, and reached to the river which is in front of Jokneam. ”

“ You will not have only one lot. 18 Instead, the hill-country will be yours, because it is a forest, and you can cut it down, and its furthest parts will be yours, because you can drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots, even though they are powerful. ”

“ They rose in a single heap very far off, at the city of Adam, which is beside Zarethan. The [waters] flowing downward towards the Sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea, ceased and were cut off, and the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 And the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant of Yahweh stood on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan. ”

“ Bring your father, mother, brothers, and all your father's family home with you. 19 Then, whoever walks outside the doors of your house, his death is on him: [3] it is not our fault. But whoever is in the house, his death is our responsibility if anyone harms him. ”

“ The term translated here as "sent envoys" is a rare one, appearing once in the Bible and of uncertain meaning. Another possible translation is collected provisions↑ "trees"; some wooden device for execution, like a cross or stake.↑ (13:3) sarens: a term used only of Philistine leaders.↑ (15:19) the Negev. An arid region to the south of Israel.↑ (18:6) cast lots. A method for producing random selections. Similar examples in modern culture would include using dice or drawing straws. ”

“ Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah, 34 and Zanoah, and Ein-gannim, and Tappuah, and the Enam, 35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Sokoh, and Azekah, 36 and Sharaim, and Adithaim, and the Gederah, and Gederothaim: fourteen cities with their villages.
37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad, 38 and Dilean, and the Mizpah, and Joktheel, 39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon, 40 and Kabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish, 41 and Gederoth, and Beth-dagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities with their villages. ”
