Ramesh Shrestha, Adult Literacy in Nepal
“ When we give literacy to a group, we are asking some uneasy questions on the deep-rooted values and belief system of the recipients, we are forcing them to adopt some fundamental changes in their approach to life and the universe. By bringing a transition from oral to written culture, by bringing any iota of liberation from on individual mind to the universal mind, literacy is an enormous undertaking. In a country like Nepal, literacy work becomes essentially, an enquiry into the poverty of the nation and its struggle to free itself from it. ”
