The earliest Nazi declaration of racial policy came in February, 1920, thirteen years before Hitler's ascension to the Chancellory. The National Socialist Party proposed that none but those of German blood should be citizens of the Nation. ”

“ From the fact that we can trace the rise of Nazi belief in social conditions, it does not at all follow that arose out of these or other social conditions and not out of the hysterical animosity of Hitler. ”

Most striking is the selection of a leader, the oath to follow him blindly, and the ritual of obedience. All who disagree are traitors. Is not this self-appointed, selfannointed leadership and blind fealty a description of Hitlerism? It is to precisely this tradition in German history that the Nazi leaders have appealed.
Always in German history the inverted pyramid has been the governing form. All authority rests on the apex. ”

3. Political Dismemberment What, then, of other remedies? Shall we slice German y into many segments and by such dismemberment inflict capital punishment on her nationhood rather than on her people? ”

“ To sustain the “master race” in its war-making, they enslaved millions of human beings and brought them into Germany, where these hapless creatures now wander as “displaced persons”. At length bestiality and bad faith reached such excess that they aroused the sleeping strength of imperiled civilization. Its united efforts have ground the German war machine to fragments. But the struggle has left Europe a liberated yet prostrate land where a demoralized society struggles to survive. These are the fruits of the sinister forces that sit with these defendants in the prisoners’ dock. ”

“ Social Life in Germany.—In the Austrian and German principalities, although wholesale massacre, and conversion by means of fire and rack, were slowly passing away with other miserable customs of the Middle Ages, yet expulsions, and exactions, and disabilities of all kinds were still in full force against the Jews. Throughout the many separate states which in these days constitute the great united Empire of Germany, the race, as we have seen,59 were reckoned as serfs of the Imperial Chamber, and were thus under the nominal protection of the Emperor. ”
