Winston K. Marks,  Brown John's Body

“ A live one. You can live in the cage togeth——John, don't stop there!"
The claws had paused near his knee and were clinging to the blood-soaked cloth.
"No, no, John! Don't! I'll stick you with the fork. I'll stick you—I'll kill you! John, we got to get out of here or we'll both die. Die, do you hear! We'll suffocate! Don't do that. Stop. Stop or I'll—"
Neff's threats beat hard into the rat's brain, and now as the slanting incisors tore at the cloth and chewed the luscious, blood-smothered, hot meat, Neff's screams sent tremors through the skinny, voracious body, and the tail tucked down.

Winston K. Marks,  Until Life Do Us Part

“ Her smile widened with her look of mild amazement. "Why Webb, I do believe you mean it!"
"You have always been high in my affections, Anne."
"Yes, but—it's a long life. Such a long life!"
That damned phrase again! The essence of sanity, they called it. The cliche of cliches that under-scored this whole business of immortality. Be not concerned for the frustrations of the moment. All obstacles are transient—all obstacles and all emotions. The price of immortality is caution, patience, temperance.

Winston K. Marks,  Forsyte's Retreat

“ A bulgy, bronzed fellow clad mainly in an immaculately white brassard left the rope barrier and joined Bradford.
The Elder screamed, "You can't go back, Forsyte! Don't you understand? You disappeared two centuries ago when the vector field collapsed. You can't go back! You can't! This is your destiny!"
Sextus' heels soared five feet above the canvas and gained precious altitude with each spring, but it was a precarious business the higher he went. One slip and he'd glance off at a tangent and be captured by those reaching, grasping obscene hands in the crowd.
