Walter Matthew Gallichan, Women Under Polygamy — Chapter 28
“ Polygamy is severely interdicted, and in most communities punished; but the sexual association of men with more than one woman, or plurality, has never been wholly suppressed by religion or law. [1] The restless and inconstant passions of men and women break the conventional fetters, and the phenomena of pseudo-polygamy and pseudo-polyandry are manifest in every civilised state. This fact demonstrates that, deeply-rooted in the breasts of a vast number of Western people, dwells a powerful desire for variety in love. ”
