Mictlan

“ After four years, these spirits went to animate the clouds, and birds of beautiful feathers and sweet song; but always at liberty to rise again to heaven, or to descend upon the earth to warble and suck the flowers." The souls of the wicked departed to a place of utter darkness, called Mictlan, or hell, where it seems they underwent no other punishment than that of being deprived of light. ”

“ A concept very close to the Judeo-Christian idea of paradise.
The place for male and female warriors of the Flower War. The Ilhuicatonantiuh was the sky where the male warriors accompanied Sun on its daily path, from dawn through the Zenith, and female warriors from the zenith through sunset. A luminous place par excellence. And Mictlán, the place for people who died from common death. In the Mictlán they would suffer before reaching the Lord of death and disappear.
"Where to go that death does not exist?
This is why my heart cries.
Be strong: no one is going to live here! ”

“ They insensibly lower to the level of animism and fetishism that religion which, as we have seen, bears comparison in its grander aspects with the most renowned mythologies of the ancient world. I must, however, allow myself a few words on the god Mictlan, the Mexican Hades or Pluto. His name properly signifies "region of the North;" but inasmuch as the North was regarded as the country of mist, of barrenness and of death, his name easily passed into the designation of the subterranean country of the dead. ”

MICTLAMPA AS HADES
The Hades of the Aztec race was Mictlampa, presided over by Mictlantecutli (Lord of Mictlampa) and his spouse (Mictecaciuatl) . The souls of the defunct who fared thither were those who died of disease, chiefs, great personages, or humbler folk. ”

“Go with the Wind, little Mit-kah,” said the Bear, drowsily. “He is swifter than I, but he does not love you so well. Do not forget me, little Mit-kah.” ”

“ SHOW-DAY came at last, and Miss Chatterton, albeit she did not like to be unfashionably early, was quite unable to restrain her anxiety for a few moments' talk with Mr. Mitchelson, and to see the arrivals.
"I am too soon, I know I am," she said, with an apologetic tone and coaxing manner; "but, dear Mr. Mitchelson, you will forgive an old woman, to whom a bustle is naturally a trial. It is so very pleasant to see the people dropping in, one or two at a time, instead of elbowing one's way through a crowd. ”
