Royal fruit gelatin suggestions (1926)

“ Royal Fruit Flavored Gelatin is made by the same standards of quality and purity.
You’ll be delighted with its delicate texture, smooth, tender, firm, and, with its lovely color, as appetizing to look at, as to taste. And then it’s so quick! Hundreds of delighted women have written to tell us that it sets more quickly than any other gelatin they have ever used. For making whipped desserts, they tell us it is wonderful. “It whips just like cream” “and so easily and quickly.”

“ Process. It is based upon the fact that gelatin, sensitized with bichromate of potash, swells when placed in water, and swells in proportion to the amount of light to which it has been exposed. A negative taken from a drawing which varies in tone, not being thoroughly black all through, varies in the quality of its transparent lines and dots; and when a piece of paper or glass coated with sensitized gelatin is exposed to the action of such a negative it is affected according to the amount of light the negative allows to pass. ”

Henley's Twentieth Century Formulas…

“ I.—Soak 7 pounds of good gelatin in 10 ounces of glycerine and 60 ounces of water, and heat over a water bath until dissolved, and add any desired color. Pigments may be used, and various tints can be obtained by the use of aniline colors. The resulting compound should be stored in jars. To apply liquefy the mass and dip the cork and portion of the neck of the bottle into the liquid; it sets very quickly.
Mix the gelatin, gum arabic, and boric acid with 14 fluidounces of cold water, stir occasionally until the gum is dissolved, heat the mixture to boiling, remove the scum, and strain.
