Tzaddik

“ When a tzaddik accepts money from a wicked person, even if the money is possibly stolen, it is permitted for the tzaddik to accept it, so that the wicked one will not take on some wicked Torah scholar, claiming that the scholar is a tzaddik, giving him the money, and he will oppose the True Tzaddik. ”

“ And he's constantly fighting the wars of Hashem, for he fights against the Klipa of Amalek who is Pegam haBrit, blemish of the Covenant, that stems from him; and the Tzaddik subdues him and all the afflictors and attackers going after the weak stragglers of Yisrael, strengthening them and bringing them in Avodat Hashem Yitbarakh, drawing them to the category of Tikkun haBrit. ”

“ And throws them skyward - that is to say, he makes them leaders and raises them very high, and magnifies their name exceedingly. He plants in their hearts to attack the True Tzaddik. All in order to hide the name of the True Tzaddik, the true Head of the House. Thus, it is said in the Torah: "The war of Hashem against Amalek is in every generation." For in every generation, Amalek maintains his attack, since in every generation, the Redemption is ready to come through this Head of the House, who is the aspect of Moshe-Mashiach - the highest tzaddik of each generation. ”

“ But when one is haughty and says 'I shall rule' and seeks to draw 'kingship' to himself, this is because in his haughtiness, he believes that he has already achieved some intelligence, that he is a scholar, a kabbalist, a tzaddik, and deserves some status of power. He thus desires to overturn order and take the Malchut for himself, as if he has power and knowledge to sustain the Malchut which is sustained mainly by wisdom, to draw wisdom into disorder and to empower disorder over order. ”

“ One can even be a tzaddik even though he's not scholarly at all. However, if one is not a scholar who is well-versed in Gemara, with Rashi and Tosafot, one cannot master certain concepts. Still, a kosher man and a total tzaddik he can become even if he's a completely simple man. ”

“ And when sadness and heaviness grow worse on a Tzaddik it is very, very hard for him, for it attacks him more and more, until so much sadness and heaviness fell on him that he was really unable to move from his place at all due to the vastness of the heaviness and sadness that had become very strong upon him. ”

“ Your devotion should be enough to block out everything else.' The Rebbe said, 'The truth is that this is no argument. The greatest tzaddik may pray with great strength and attachment to God, but he can still be disturbed. No matter how great his enthusiasm, no matter how deeply he is bound up in prayer, he can still be greatly disturbed by one who makes fun of him and disturbs him. All his feeling and emotion will not prevent him from being disturbed and distressed.' The Rebbe once said that sometimes a person is given great wealth. ”

“ And when she falls she falls at His feet; behold it's the scripture (Ruth 3:7) , "And she uncovered his feet and lay down." She falls before him casting down her face, on account of the Tzaddik who is Cha"Y `Almin, poor in the exile, and the Tzaddik when he's out of his place it's said of him (Ps. 2:12) , "Kiss the son (Bar) lest he be wroth," and the Shekhinah when she's outside of her place is called Baraita. ”

“ Sometimes, when many tzaddikim oppose one tzaddik, the Holy One, Blessed be He sides with them, even though the truth rests with the one tzaddik. the other tzaddikim draw the Will of G-d to them.
62. One who calls his fellow man wicked, it is permitted to interfere with his business and to decrease his income by up to one third.
63. If a person does not have friends and those who love him, death would be relief for him.
64. All things are created in the aspect of male and female. Even kings -- there is a king whose aspect is male, and there is a king whose aspect is female. ”

“ In the aspect of "Call the generations from the start."
For Amalek has no interest in waging war with any other leader - large or small - aside from the Head himself. However, against the Head of the House, he has no power to wage war. For that True Tzaddik - the Head of the House - has already merited to defeat and break him completely, since he has no selfish motivations at all. For he has already broken all his desires and negative traits with such an absolute completeness, that beyond it there is no more final completeness. ”

“ Humility protects against sexual immorality. Pride arouses the Yetzer haRa for this temptation (and see above #10) (130) .
22. A Segulah for being saved from pride is to honor the festivals, receiving them with joy and open-heartedness to the extent of his means (135) .
23. Following the True Tzaddik nullifies pride. So this is a sign whether he's truly connected to the Tzaddik: if he's meek (Ibid.) .
24. When a person is so humble that he is literally nothing, he can attain Torah and greatness at the same time. Otherwise it is hard to have both of them together, Torah and greatness (162) . ”

“ The king decreed on the Jews to pray. The Jews sought the tzaddik (who had prayed for the king to have a son, as mentioned) , and brought him before the king.
Now, this tzaddik would always pray before Hashem Yithbarakh, inasmuch as he had promised the king that his son would be completely made of gemstones, and it had not been fulfilled. And he complained to the Eybishter (the Most High; God) , "Have I done this for honor's sake? I have done this only for Your honor, and now, it has not been fulfilled the way I said." And the tzaddik came to the king. ”

“ And since there is a worse descent, God forbid, one needs to be strong and not fall any further, God forbid. And the main empowerment is by the strength of the aforementioned tzaddikim, who never stayed put but every time rose higher etc. as mentioned. For they attained the perception that just as there is never an ascent, similarly there is never a descent from which one cannot rise up. For in truth it is all one, for the more a tzaddik rises to a higher level, he perceives more the generosities of Hashem, which this is the essence of Hashem Yithbarakh's greatness. ”

“ Later, he had an only son and he raised him and made him a wedding. The son would sit in an attic room and learn [i.e. study Torah] , as is the way with the wealthy. He would study and pray constantly, except that he felt in himself a lacking [due to] some deficiency, but he did not know what, and he had no taste [satisfaction] in his learning and praying. He told this to two young people and they advised he should travel to a certain tzaddik [saintly Jew] . Now, this son had done a [certain] "mitzvah" [commandment or good deed] through which he had reached the aspect of the Smaller Luminary. ”

“ Whoever does not attach to and follow the True Tzaddik, then all his devotions are only like someone who distorts himself and imitates someone else, as a monkey does a man. So this is, "Iwweleth adam tesallef darko," namely a person via his foolishness all his devotions are only in the aspect of "tesallef darko/perverts his way," like one who perverts and distorts himself to copy someone else, as mentioned. And the cause is, "we`al-H' yiz`af libbo/and his heart frets against H'," namely he contends with the Tzaddik and does not follow him ”

“ After doing promiscuity with all of them, she gives surplus extra to her husband. Of this it's said (Song 4:26) , "On account of a promiscuous woman, down to a loaf of bread," since she is warmed up by the liver, and spleen (daf 49b) is the laughter of the fool, and of this it's said, "If you see a wicked man on whom the hour is cheering, do not scold him," since it's lower Sheol, of which it says, "who swallows up the one more righteous than him." But a total Tzaddik he does not swallow. The liver gets angry and kills. ”

“ By this, one can know what is decreed upon the world, and whether it is now before the passing of the decree or after, and upon just whom is passed the judgement, God forbid; and he'll know how to pray for the world. For after a decree the Tzaddikim must clothe their prayers in stories. All this they attain by doing wiswoth in extreme joy from the miswah itself (5) . ”

“ They immediately made him a king over them, for their king deferred the kingship to him since they saw that he is quite a great man [Heb. that he is set apart on a very, very high level] . The Prayer Leader taught them and opened their eyes and showed them how pray to Hashem Yithbarakh, and he made them into very great complete tzaddikim, for they had been tzaddikim before as well since they had involved themselves only in prayer, albeit the Prayer Leader opened their eyes until they became extremely great tzaddikim. ”

“ Yet this is the aspect as seen above that there are tzaddikim, which are truly great and lofty, yet due to their holiness they are not able to tolerate the world. Therefore, by the force of their holiness they distance themselves and downgrade themselves, G-d forbid. There are people who become angry with them (the tzaddikim) because they (the tzaddikim) cannot tolerate their indecent conduct. But Hashem Yisbarach does not desire this, because He desires Chesed/lovingkindness and wants the tzaddikim to always have mercy on Israel and bring them close even if they are as they are. ”

“ And on this he should cry and mourn very much every night at midnight, and through this it will be considered as if he made effort for the Holy Temple’s reconstruction, and through this he should merit to draw close to the truth, i.e. draw close to true Tzaddikim who are God-fearing and kosher, who are the main glory and charm and beauty, the truth of the world*, and through this his eyes will be opened and he will look at himself in all the traits and return in teshuvah on all the bad traits, and merit to know and recognize the great name of the Blessed One. ”

“ It hints that this is the true goal of Avodah, and no other.
The seventh chapter focuses on fulfilling this goal in prayers of Chazal, brings the verse "And He said to me, 'You are My servant,'" and brings a saying about the ascension of tzaddikim and explains it.
The eighth chapter explains that the most preferred prayer is the one that ascends entirely up high, and proves this from prayers of Chazal and the Kabbalah. It also provides additional explanation with evidence. ”

“ Queen Astarte and the famous minister Zadig were extremely fond of them."
Zadig, transported, said, "What, knowest thou nothing of the queen's fate?"
"No, my lord," replied the fisherman; "but I know that neither the queen nor Zadig has paid me for my cream cheeses; that I have lost my wife, and am now reduced to despair."
"I flatter myself," said Zadig, "that thou wilt not lose all thy money. I have heard of this Zadig; he is an honest man; and if he returns to Babylon, as he expects, he will give thee more than he owes thee. Believe me, go to Babylon. ”

“ The Hebrew word Zaddik18 means “just” or “righteous,” and the term was probably chosen in conscious opposition to the title of Rabbinic heroes, “disciples of the wise.” For the Zaddik is not so much the product of learning as of intuition: his final consummation is reached by a sudden and direct illumination from God. The Zaddik not only resembles Moses, but, in virtue of his long communion with the Divine, he is also the true child of God. He is, moreover, a vivifying power in creation, for he is the connecting bond between God and his creatures. ”

“ Man must therefore learn to love the Zaddik, [pg 037] so that through the Zaddik he may win God's grace. He who does not believe in the Zaddik is an apostate from God. Here then we have the fatal exaggeration to which I have alluded, and here its logical consequence. The step to man-worship is short.
This peculiar doctrine of the Intermediary soon became the distinguishing feature of Chassidism. By a Chassid was understood not a man who held such and such opinions in theology and religion, but a believer in the Zaddik, and one who sought to attain salvation through the worship of the Zaddik. ”

“ Zadig’s mind was too much engrossed with the idea of Astarte not to elude this declaration; but he instantly went to the chiefs of the tribes, told them what had passed, and advised them to make a law, by which a widow should not be permitted to burn herself till she had conversed privately with a young man for the space of an hour. Since that time not a single woman hath burned herself in Arabia. They were indebted to Zadig alone for destroying in one day a cruel custom that had lasted for so many ages and thus he became the benefactor of Arabia. ”

“ I have often poured the balm of consolation into the bleeding heart of the unhappy.”
Zadig felt himself inspired with respect for the air, the beard, and the book of the hermit. He found, in the course of the conversation, that he was possessed of superior degrees of knowledge. The hermit talked of fate, of justice, of morals, of the chief good, of human weakness, and of virtue and vice, with such a spirited and moving eloquence, that Zadig felt himself drawn toward him by an irresistible charm. He earnestly entreated the favor of his company till their return to Babylon. ”

“ The symptoms by which the passions show themselves are certain and infallible. Judge, my dear Zadig, since I have read thy heart, whether the king will not discover something in it that may give him offense. He has no other fault but that of being the most jealous man in the world. Thou canst resist the violence of thy passion with greater fortitude than the queen because thou art a philosopher, and because thou art Zadig. Astarte is a woman: she suffers her eyes to speak with so much the more imprudence, as she does not as yet think herself guilty. ”
