J. Walker McSpadden,  Stories from Wagner

“ Parsifal sprang up as if stung by an asp.
"Amfortas! O Amfortas!" he cried. "I know it now! The spear-wound in your side! Ah, the anguish of it has come upon me also!"
"Thou art wrong," said the woman softly. "I have harmed thee not. Only stay!"
"Not another moment!" exclaimed Parsifal. "Your garden is evil and brings death to men's souls."
He turned to go, but the witch called aloud to the magician, for she knew her power was gone. And as she called, Parsifal saw a dark, dreadful figure before him that blocked his way.
"Stay!" commanded Klingsor waving the sacred Spear aloft.

J. Walker McSpadden,  Robin Hood

“ Why, who are you, bold fellow, to range so boldly here? In sooth, to be brief, ye look like a thief that has come to steal the King’s deer.”
“Marry, it is scant concern of yours, what I look like!” retorted Arthur-a-Bland. “Who are you, who speak so bravely?”
“You shall soon find out who I am!” quoth Robin, determining to find some sport in the matter. “I am a keeper of this forest. The King knows that I am looking after his deer for him; and therefore we must stay you.”
“Have you any assistants, friend?” asked the tanner calmly. “For it is not one man alone who can stop me.”

J. Walker McSpadden,  Boys' Book of Famous Soldiers

“ FOCH THE SCHOOLMASTER IN WAR To wait until one is sixty-three years old before even smelling powder—and then to find oneself in command of the greatest allied army that the world has ever seen—such is the remarkable story of the French General, Ferdinand Foch. His life, like that of more than one famous soldier is a bundle of paradoxes, or contradictions, but prove once again that "truth is stranger than fiction." ”
