“ Þe whiche answerden, It is told to vs þi seruauntis, þat þe Lord þi God hadde bihoot to Moyses, his seruaunt, þat he shulde taak to ȝow al þe loond, and scatre alle þe dwellers of it; we þerfor moyche dredden, and purueiden to oure lyues, constreyned wiþ ȝoure dreed, and þis counseil we maden. Forsoþe nowe in þin hoond we ben; þat to þee ryȝt and good is seen, do þow to vs. Þan Josue dide, as he seide, and delyuerde hem fro þe hoondis of þe sones of Irael, þat þei weren not slayn. ”

“ Eche place þat þe stap of ȝoure foot shal treed, to ȝow Y shal taak, as Y spak to Moyses, fro deseert and Libane and vnto þe greet flood of Effrates; al þe loond of Eþeus, vnto þe greet see aȝens þe sunne goynge doun, shal be ȝoure teerme. Noon shal mowe to ȝow to aȝenstoond alle þe dais of þi lijf; as Y was wiþ Moyses, so Y shal be wiþ þee; Y shal not leeue, ne forsaak þee. Tak coumfort, and be strong; forsoþe þow shalt dyuyde bi lot to þis puple þe loond, for þe which Y haue swore to þi faders, þat Y take it to hem. ”

“ Forsoþe þe dwellers of þe citee of Gabaon bisegid, senten to Josue, þat þanne dwellide in tentis at Galgalam, and seide to hym, Ne wiþ drawe þou þin hoond fro þe help of þi seruauntis; sty vp anoon, and delyuer vs, and bryng help; forsoþe þere ben comen to gidre aȝens vs alle þe kyngis of Ammorreis, þat dwellen in mounteyns. And Josue stiede vp fro Galgalis, and al þe oost of fiȝters wiþ hym, moost stronge men. And þe Lord seide to Josue, Drede þow not hem, forsoþe into þin hoondis Y haue taken hem ”

“ And so Josue rysynge eerly, sette Irael bi her lynagis; and it is founden þe lynage of Juda; which, whanne after his meynees was offred, it is founden þe meynee of Zare; forsoþe þilk bi men offrynge he foonde Zabdi; whos hows in sondry men dyuydyng, he foonde Achor, þe sone of Charmy, sone of Zabdi, sone of Zare, of þe lynage of Juda. ”
