Definition and stakes

Franz Hunolt,  Hunolt Sermons/Volume 12 (1895)

“ Joseph as the protector of the whole house of Austria, and the ruler of his kingdom and country, begging at the same time all the other electors and princes of the Roman empire to choose the same saint as their patron, especially in Germany, and to show him special honor. And most of those princes followed his example. " Behold, I have appointed thee over the whole land, "said also one of the first of the archbishops of Treves, Charles Gaspar von der Layen of glorious memory, when he dedicated himself and his whole diocese to St. Joseph and chose him as the father of his country. ”

Portrait of Franz Delitzsch Franz Delitzsch,  Biblical Commentary Old Testament… (1885)

“ As the sight of his brethren bowing before him with the deepest reverence reminded Joseph of his early dreams of the sheaves and stars, which had so increased the hatred of his brethren towards him as to lead to a proposal to kill him, and an actual sale, he said to them, “ Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land (i.e., the unfortified parts of the kingdom which would be easily accessible to a foe) ye are come;” and persisted in this charge notwithstanding their reply, “ nay, my lord, but (ו see Ges. §155, 1 b) to buy food are thy servants come. ”

Various,  Chambers's Journal of Popular Literature…

“ Luckily the drift was just in the direction which the explorers wished to go, almost due north. They came most unexpectedly to a group of islands until then totally unknown, the largest of which they named Franz Josef Land, in honour of the Emperor of Austria. They wintered in the high latitude of eighty-one degrees north, and made excellent sledge-expeditions in the spring of 1874, an account of which, together with other interesting details, was given last month in this Journal. ”
