Sabbath school

Teachers of the School Street Universalist Sunday School. Boston,  Our Gift

“ THE INFLUENCE OF SABBATH SCHOOLS.
"Just as the twig is bent, the tree's inclined,"—is an adage as true as it is ancient. One's character, happiness, and usefulness, during his whole life, depends, in no small measure, upon early education. The child taught to disregard the Sabbath, and lightly to esteem the instructions of the Sabbath school, grows to manhood devoid of aught that can entitle him to the society and respect of the good and virtuous. With a soul shrouded in midnight darkness, he gropes his way through life, and at the grave sinks into oblivion, "by none esteemed, by all forgot."

Songs for the Little Ones at Home

“ I would love thee, and serve thee, and give thee the praise. THE SABBATH SCHOOL
Will you come to our Sabbath School?
I really wish you would;
Oh, come and join our infant class,
And learn how to be good.
We learn to sing, we learn to pray,
In our sweet Sabbath School;
And here we learn of Jesus, too,
Who gave the golden rule.

R. G. Pardee,  The Sabbath-School Index

“ THE history of Sabbath-schools is nearly allied to the onward progress of the Church of God in the earth. In all ages, whenever pure religion has been revived, it would seem that especial attention has always been given to the early religious instruction and training of children and youth by the Church of God; and herein lies the grand Sunday-school idea. Says a Scotch divine: "Vital religion, and the godly upbringing of the young, have ever gone hand in hand." The soul is diseased, and a Bible education is the only remedy. ”
