Portrait of Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin,  A Book of Gems, or, Choice selections from the writings of Benjamin Franklin

“ We love no denomination, nor denominationalism, but love the people involved in the denomination; and while we desire to see the denomination literally abolished, wiped out, we desire to save the kingdom of God, the union of the people of God, and the people themselves. This can be done if the people will have it so. But if they love the sect, party or denomination more than the Church of God, or the body of Christ, they will keep an eye to the sect, party or denomination ”

Wilmer Russell Walker,  Scriptural Basis of Christian Unity (1915)

“ I humbly ask, What must we enter—a pact or federation of denominations or a super-ecclesiasticism? Same of us have had enough of organized meddling already. Such a union will not remove denominationalism. To do so, it must embrace every Christian in the world.
If a single follower of Christ is left out, the organization can not call itself catholic truthfully. A big denomination is no more Scriptural than a small one. Then, since it can not solve the problem of Christian unity, even from a worldly standpoint, why should we feel obligated to enter it?

Harris J. Dark,  God Hath Spoken

“ Since one can be a Christian without joining any denomination, then why join one? Would it not be wrong to join one, since denominationalism is division and division is wrong? Let me emphasize the statement that I can believe all truth either in the Bible or out of the Bible and obey every commandment of the Lord without joining any denomination.
This being true, what then does it take to make one a member of a denomination? Believing truth will not make one a member of a denomination, because he can believe all truth on the outside.
