Divine counsel

Definition and stakes

Portrait of Jan Hus Jan Hus,  De Ecclesia. The Church (1915)

“ And that they may shun the occasion of sin, counsels advise them as friends. Hence, if a saint should make a divine counsel an occasion of falling from his height into mortal sin—that would be by the breaking of the first command and not by a refusal to obey the divine counsel. But in the heavenly country where the danger and occasion of sin do not exist, the counsel is not spoken of in this way. For in the heavenly country there is no voluntary poverty nor is there any savor of indigence. ”

Portal:Anonymous texts,  The Urantia Book (1955)

“ And it is in this manner that the Paradise Rulers make personal contact, in administrative matters and governmental regulation, with the individual worlds, systems, and universes.
Divine Counselors are the perfection of the divine counsel of the Paradise Trinity. We represent, in fact are, the counsel of perfection. When we are supplemented by the experiential counsel of our associates, the perfected and Trinity-embraced beings of evolutionary ascent, our combined conclusions are not only complete but replete.

Portrait of Jean-Baptiste Berthier Jean-Baptiste Berthier,  States of Christian Life and Vocation… (1879)

“ It is for this reason that Scripture does not blame persons who do not follow the counsels. Indeed, a counsel of God manifested outwardly, or proposed to men, indicates only a judgment of God, approving what he counsels as being more useful and suitable to reach everlasting happiness with greater ease and perfection. And any mind that would array itself in opposition to a divine counsel, by holding such a counsel not to be a better and more useful means for salvation, would put a grievous affront on God, in thinking so ill of his counsels. ”
