“ Blessed art thou, O Lord the God of Israel, our father from eternity to eternity.
11 Thine, O Lord, is magnificence, and power, and glory, and victory: and to thee is praise: for all that is in heaven, and in earth, is thine: thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art above all princes.
12 Thine are riches, and thine is glory, thou hast dominion over all, in thy hand is power and might: in thy hand greatness, and the empire of all things. ”

“ Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come:
14 My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall, shew me thy face, let thy voice sound in my ears: for thy voice is sweet, and thy face comely.
15 Catch us the little foxes that destroy the vines: for our vineyard hath flourished.
16 My beloved to me, and I to him who feedeth among the lilies,
17 Till the day break, and the shadows retire. Return: be like, my beloved, to a roe, or to a young hart upon the mountains of Bether. ”

“ A nation that is sturdy and treadeth down, Whose land the rivers divide! 3All ye inhabitants of the world, and ye dwellers on the earth, When an ensign is lifted up on the mountains, see ye; And when the horn is blown, hear ye.
4For thus hath the Lord said unto me: I will hold Me still, and I will look on in My dwelling-place, Like clear heat in sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. 5For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, And the bud becometh a ripening grape, He will cut off the sprigs with pruning-hooks, And the shoots will He take away and lop off. ”

“ Where are their gods, The rock in whom they trusted; 38Who did eat the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let him rise up and help you, Let him be your protection.
39See now that I, even I, am He, And there is no god with Me; I kill, and I make alive; I have wounded, and I heal; And there is none that can deliver out of My hand. 40For I lift up My hand to heaven, And say: As I live for ever, 41If I whet My glittering sword, And My hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to Mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate Me. ”

“ I girded thee, and thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know who are from the rising of the sun, and they who are from the west, that there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is none else:
7 I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord that do all these things.
8 Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened, and bud forth a saviour: and let justice spring up together: I the Lord have created him. ”

“ Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel.
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah hath not defied?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, And from the hills I behold him: lo, it is a people that dwelleth alone, And shall not be reckoned among the nations.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my last end be like his!
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. ”

“ Make thyself many as the canker-worm, Make thyself many as the locust. 16Thou hast multiplied thy merchants Above the stars of heaven; The canker-worm spreadeth itself, and flieth away. 17Thy crowned are as the locusts, And thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, Which camp in the walls in the cold day, But when the sun ariseth they flee away, And their place is not known where they are. 18Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria, Thy worthies are at rest; Thy people are scattered upon the mountains, And there is none to gather them. ”

“ For the blast of the mighty is like a whirlwind beating against a wall.
5 Thou shalt bring down the tumult of strangers, as heat in thirst: and as with heat under a burning cloud, thou shalt make the branch of the mighty to wither away.
6 And the Lord of hosts shall make unto all people in this mountain, a feast of fat things, a feast of wine, of fat things full of marrow, of wine purified from the lees. ”

“ Until I have declared Thy strength unto the next generation, Thy might to every one that is to come. 19Thy righteousness also, O God, which reacheth unto high heaven; Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like unto Thee? 20Thou, who hast made me to see many and sore troubles, Wilt quicken me again, and bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21Thou wilt increase my greatness, And turn and comfort me. 22I also will give thanks unto Thee with the psaltery, Even unto Thy truth, O my God; I will sing praises unto Thee with the harp, O Thou Holy One of Israel. ”

“ Chapter 7 1 Is there not a warfare to man upon earth? And are not his days like the days of a hireling?
2 As a servant that earnestly desireth the shadow, And as a hireling that looketh for his wages:
3 So am I made to possess months of misery, And wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4 When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? And I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.
5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; My skin closeth up, and breaketh out afresh. ”

“ The heaven is My throne, And the earth is My footstool; Where is the house that ye may build unto Me? And where is the place that may be My resting-place? 2For all these things hath My hand made, And so all these things came to be, Saith the Lord; But on this man will I look, Even on him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, And trembleth at My word. 3He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; He that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he broke a dog's neck; He that offereth a meal-offering, as if he offered swine's blood; He that maketh a memorial-offering of frankincense, as if he blessed an idol ”

“ Selah.
5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. ”

“ And the father of a fool hath no joy.
22 A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
23 A wicked man receiveth a bribe out of the bosom, To pervert the ways of justice.
24 Wisdom is before the face of him that hath understanding; But the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her that bare him. ”

“ Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the Lord cometh, For it is at hand; 2A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, As blackness spread upon the mountains; A great people and a mighty, There hath not been ever the like, Neither shall be any more after them, Even to the years of many generations. 3A fire devoureth before them, And behind them a flame blazeth; The land is as the garden of Eden before them, And behind them a desolate wilderness ”

“ Yea, in the shadow of Thy wings will I take refuge, Until calamities be overpast. 3I will cry unto God Most high; Unto God that accomplisheth it for me. 4He will send from heaven, and save me, When he that would swallow me up taunteth, Selah God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. 5My soul is among lions, I do lie down among them that are aflame; Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword. 6Be Thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; Thy glory be above all the earth. ”

“ So shall no man abide there, Neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
41Behold, a people cometh from the north, And a great nation, and many kings Shall be roused from the uttermost parts of the earth. 42They lay hold on bow and spear, They are cruel, and have no compassion; Their voice is like the roaring sea, And they ride upon horses; Set in array, as a man for war, Against thee, O daughter of Babylon. 43The king of Babylon hath heard the fame of them, And his hands wax feeble; Anguish hath taken hold of him, And pain, as of a woman in travail. ”

“ And we all do fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. 6And there is none that calleth upon Thy name, That stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee; For Thou hast hid Thy face from us, And hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.
7But now, O Lord, Thou art our Father; We are the clay, and Thou our potter, And we all are the work of Thy hand. 8Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, Neither remember iniquity for ever; Behold, look, we beseech Thee, we are all Thy people. 9Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ”

“ We have waited for Thee; Be Thou their arm every morning, Our salvation also in the time of trouble. 3At the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; At the lifting up of Thyself the nations are scattered. 4And your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathereth; As locusts leap do they leap upon it. 5The Lord is exalted, for He dwelleth on high; He hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness. 6And the stability of thy times shall be A hoard of salvation—wisdom and knowledge, And the fear of the Lord which is His treasure. ”

“ They that dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them hath the light shined. 2Thou hast multiplied the nation, Thou hast increased their joy; They joy before Thee according to the joy in harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 3For the yoke of his burden, And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, Thou hast broken as in the day of Midian. For every boot stamped with fierceness, And every cloak rolled in blood, Shall even be for burning, for fuel of fire. 5For a child is born unto us, A son is given unto us ”

“ Give the king Thy judgments, O God, And Thy righteousness unto the king's son; 2That he may judge Thy people with righteousness, And Thy poor with justice. 3Let the mountains bear peace to the people, And the hills, through righteousness. 4May he judge the poor of the people, And save the children of the needy, And crush the oppressor. 5They shall fear Thee while the sun endureth, And so long as the moon, throughout all generations. ”

“ I will be wise: and it departed farther from me,
25 Much more than it was: it is a great depth, who shall find it out?
26 I have surveyed all things with my mind, to know, and consider, and seek out wisdom and reason: and to know the wickedness of the fool, and the error of the imprudent:
27 And I have found a woman more bitter than death, who is the hunter’s snare, and her heart is a net, and her hands are bands. He that pleaseth God shall escape from her: but he that is a sinner, shall be caught by her. ”

“ Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, And it shall be a ruinous heap. 2The cities of Aroer are forsaken; They shall be for flocks, Which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, And the kingdom from Damascus; And the remnant of Aram shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, Saith the Lord of hosts.
4And it shall come to pass in that day, That the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, And the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean. ”

“ I will take vengeance, and no man shall resist me.
4 Our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called the lady of kingdoms.
6 I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and have given them into thy bend: thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.
7 And thou hast said: I shall be a lady for ever: thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, neither hast thou remembered thy latter end. ”

“ How is Babylon become an astonishment Among the nations! 42The sea is come up upon Babylon; She is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof. 43Her cities are become a desolation, A dry land, and a desert, A land wherein no man dwelleth, Neither doth any son of man pass thereby. 44And I will punish Bel in Babylon, And I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up, And the nations shall not flow any more unto him; Yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall. 45My people, go ye out of the midst of her, And save yourselves every man From the fierce anger of the Lord. ”

“ When I would turn the captivity of My people, 7When I would heal Israel, Then is the iniquity of Ephraim uncovered, And the wickedness of Samaria, For they commit falsehood; And the thief entereth in, And the troop of robbers maketh a raid without. 2And let them not say to their heart— I remember all their wickedness, Now their own doings have beset them about, They are before My face. 3They make the king glad with their wickedness, And the princes with their lies, 4They are all adulterers, As an oven heated by the baker, Who ceaseth to stir From the kneading of the dough until it be leavened. ”

“ For unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to pardon, And plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee.
6Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; And attend unto the voice of my supplications. 7In the day of my trouble I call upon Thee; For Thou wilt answer me. 8There is none like unto Thee among the gods, O Lord, And there are no works like Thine. 9All nations whom Thou hast made shall come and prostrate themselves before Thee, O Lord; And they shall glorify Thy name. 10For Thou art great, and doest wondrous things; Thou art God alone. ”

“ Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, Thy glory and thy majesty.
4 And in thy majesty ride on prosperously, Because of truth and meekness [and] righteousness: And thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
5 Thine arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under thee; [They are] in the heart of the king's enemies.
6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: A sceptre of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
7 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness: Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee With the oil of gladness above thy fellows. ”

“ And all nations shall flow unto it. 3And many peoples shall go and say: 'Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; And He will teach us of His ways, And we will walk in His paths.' For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4And He shall judge between the nations, And shall decide for many peoples; And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning-hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war any more. ”

“ I will sing praise to thee in the sight of his angels:
2 I will worship towards thy holy temple, and I will give glory to thy name. For thy mercy, and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy holy name above all.
3 In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me: thou shall multiply strength in my soul.
4 May all the kings of the earth give glory to thee: for they have heard all the words of thy mouth.
5 And let them sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord. ”

“ I stand up, and thou regardest me not.
21 Thou hast become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
22 Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
23 For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
24 Yet he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
25 Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
26 When I looked for good, then evil came: and when I waited for light, there came darkness. ”
