by Jerome Kern A Little Thing like a Kiss (1913)

There are kisses that mean little to the taker or the giver, There are other that mean Oh so much, Of those we must beware, For the kiss that from certain party fairly makes you shiver From another is a trifle light as air, Often times when lips are meeting one or both is really cheating, It's no more than pressure of the finger tips, In some cases you go through it, Feeling there is nothing to it, For a kiss comes from the heart and not the lips.

An heiress was I, and you were a King though between us we hadn't a crown But youth was our kingdom and all it could bring Love was better than weath, or renown You and I could defy, All the whole world might say, When we dined, Sometimes wined, In that little cafe Ah well I remember, Forget if you can, When we lived the life of the Quatier Latin.

Come raise your glasses high in the air And sing goodbye to care, For music takes uss all to a land where Life is bright and fair. A land of sun, A land of fun A land of cheer With naught to fear A land where good Is understood With gladness ev'rywhere So come with me The fare is free Where music plays we long to be.
