“ Cursty Sandboys was the wickedness of all the world but Buttermere.
And yet to have looked at the man, one would never suppose that Sandboys could be nervous about anything. Taller than even the tallest of the villagers, among whom he had been bred and born, he looked a grand specimen of the human race in a country where it is by no means uncommon to see a labouring man with form and features as dignified, and manners as grave and self-possessed, as the highest bred nobleman in the land.

“ That story about jumping overboard and getting washed back don't seem to me ought to be told to people that love truth. Anyhow Sandboys didn't like it, and he told me to tell you to tell your old Pirate that he can do his own Grand Viziering when he gets to his Island Kingdom and save his ten dollars a week—there's more money in carrying ice-water up and down stairs here, Sandboys says, and he's going to stick to it.
I'm pretty lonesome for you this summer, though there's a half a dozen pretty good fellows here; one of 'em's named Billie Tompkins and he lives out in Chicago.

“ Sandboys, as they entered the great, comfortable hotel office, was in the act of carrying a half-dozen pitchers of iced water up stairs to supply thirsty guests with the one thing needful and best to quench that thirst, and in his excitement at catching sight once again of his two little friends, managed to drop two of them with a loud crash upon the office floor.
"It's Sandboys," said Jack, gleefully. "I was afraid we wouldn't see him this year. He's been studying theelygy."
"He'll never be any kind of a preacher," returned Bob, with a laugh at the idea.
