Portrait of William Blake William Blake,  Jerusalem. The Emanation of the Giant Albion

“ Then he sent forth the Spectre all his pyramids were grains
Of sand & his pillars: dust on the flys wing: & his starry
Heavens; a moth of gold & silver mocking his anxious grasp
50 Thus Los alterd his Spectre & every Ratio of his Reason
He alterd time after time, with dire pain & many tears
Till he had completely divided him into a separate space.
Terrified Los sat to behold trembling & weeping & howling
I care not whether a Man is Good or Evil; all that I care
55 Is whether he is a Wise Man or a Fool. Go!

Edwin Ellis,  The works of William Blake, poetic… (1893)

“ The mind, Los, has to choose from labour of imagination, and covers itself with the external world symbolized by Los placing his left shoe above his head. The feet are the lower and most outward part of the mind, and the left foot means that part of the mind nearest to the Northern darkness, for Los has his face to the East. The lower mind is placed above the higher. This is not done because Los has become enamoured of matter, but as a "solemn mourning," or period of repentance spent in mere outward life, that the confused mental powers may return to themselves. ”

“ But he is solitary there, he only propagates destruction through grief, and restraint unlike Los, possesses of the moon the loins.
The winds and clouds, during the repose of the fire and light, are invited to awake and sing to the elemental harps. North and South repose, East and West arise and sing. The sons of Urizen, the northern sons, are destructive, and envy the sons of Los who are elemental and joyous. They demand that spiritual life, delight, and not merely intellectual destruction, be attached to experiences, and claim this because joy is among their privileges.
