“ A DMP provides a vehicle for conveying information to and setting expectations for your project team during both the proposal and project planning stages, as well as during project team meetings later, when the project is underway. That said, no plan is perfect. Plans do become better through use. ”

However, the architect will sometimes supply the hardware schedule and obtain prices for the same direct from the dealer, thus saving the owner the general contractor’s profit and insuring bids based on material of uniform character and quality. ”

“ The process of selection is greatly facilitated by the elimination of articles outside of the grades selected. When the maker’s grade of goods has been decided on, the next step is to select in detail the articles, designs, and finishes to be used in each room, floor, or division of the building, making such notes of the decisions so reached as will be convenient in framing the hardware specification, or schedule. ”

“ In the development of the replacement systems for the ARTS programs, the common ARTS, which is now under way, and soon to be the STARS system, we hope, is your office working with these programs to make sure that all these improvements that you've made in the ARTS II and ARTS III systems will be maintained and promulgated? ”

“ The necessity for additional room for the Patent Office is becoming more urgent every year. With the present limited space at the disposal of the office, rooms are overcrowded, and proper disposition cannot be made of the files and records which are yearly accumulating. ”

“ Build Programs The value of the build-system field, as shown on Figure 4, must be a build-system object, which is essentially a wrapper around two procedure: one procedure to do a native build, and one to do a cross-build. When the aforementioned package-derivation (or package-cross-derivation, when cross-building) is called, it invokes the build system’s build procedure, passing it a connection to the build daemon, the system type, derivation name, and inputs. It is the build system’s responsibility to return a derivation that actually builds the software. ”

Builders’ hardware, however, does not readily admit of accurate preliminary estimating, and in many cases the architect merely specifies the sum to be expended for finishing hardware, stating that selections are to be made by himself or his client later, as the work progresses. ”

“ Unless otherwise provided by contract, the author of an accepted architectural project shall have the right to demand that the party who commissioned the work allow him to take part in the realization of his project at the stage of the production of the documentary material relating to the construction or at the stage of the actual construction of the building or other structure. ”

“ Agencies should use these reviews to consider a variety of management practices that can improve the return from infrastructure investments. Examples include contracting practices that reward quality and innovation, and design standards that incorporate new technologies and construction techniques. ”

“ Based on its own plans and the plans and reports submitted by other agencies, the Administrator of General Services shall provide planning information to potential AFV suppliers to assist in production planning. ”

“ All these things must be carefully considered before the building has gone so far that the cost of installation is going to be doubled. There is no reason why locks on the doors should not be considered just as well before the doors are ready to receive them, as after the doors are in place. The hardware is all ordered long before the building is ready for it, and unless unusual needs are specified at the time the plans are accepted there will be extra expense in later changes. ”

“ The architect can be of great service in the matter of contractor's bids. He knows the past performances of those operating in the vicinity where you propose building and can suggest the men or firms whose work is most satisfactory. From four to eight general contractors, that is, individuals or firms competent to undertake the complete building operation, ought to be invited to submit sealed bids. Each is supplied with a complete set of plans and specifications by the architect and given from ten days to two weeks in which to submit their bids. ”

“ Station Construction.—The construction or rearrangement of the building intended for the plant is a problem that under ordinary conditions would be solved by an architect, or at least by an architect with the assistance of an electrical or mechanical engineer, still there are many installations where the electrical engineer has been compelled to design the building. ”

“ EXTRAORDINARY OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE WORK— The term `extraordinary operation and maintenance work' means major, nonrecurring maintenance to Reclamation-owned or operated facilities, or facility components, that is— (A) intended to ensure the continued safe, dependable, and reliable delivery of authorized project benefits; and (B) greater than 10 percent of the contractor's or the transferred works operating entity's annual operation and maintenance budget for the facility, or greater than $100,000. ”

“ In the modern organization of work, the first care is to provide work-rooms in which the highest efficiency may be maintained. Scientific investigation shows the extravagance of conditions which retard speed and multiply unnecessary motions, which do not provide adequate light and air and proper colors to conserve strength, arrest fatigue and support the energies. In planning buildings we properly endeavor to bring the catalog department into the closest possible relation with the order department, the book stack and the reference department, to save steps which mean time and money. ”
